Welcome to the New School Year

I am excited about the new school year because several teachers are embracing web 2.0 technology. You will see teachers incorporating wikis, blogs, google tools, and other web 2.0 technology into their lessons.

Teachers will be using wikispaces to establish classroom webpages that will house inquiry based lessons and links to important material. We know that students and parents realize the importance of becoming digital citizens. In other words, we know students read and write using web 2.0 tools daily and a variety of other digital tools. Teachers want to use the tools that students naturally gravitate toward to improve technology and informational literacy, as well as prepare students to be responsible 21st century learners for the work force.

Thus, we are asking all parents and students to sign a Responsible Technology User Policy (RTUP) and a Permissions Acceptable User Policy(AUP). The RTUP is for parent's and student's to read together and to agree to be responsible users of computer, Internet, and web 2.0 tools for classroom assignments. The AUP is a document where parent's give permission to students to access the use of computers, Internet, access blogs and wikis, and other web 2.0 tools. Parents and guardians will also give permission for classroom work, pictures, and audio recordings of children to be used on classroom sites, with the understanding that student's last name (family name) will not be used.

Teachers are asked to sign a "Teacher Acceptable Use Policy" and file with the principal, as well as, making sure students and parents have signed the RTUP and AUP. If you have any questions please contact me using District email or calling the THS high school.
